Experimental and Computational Study of Unique Tetranuclear µ3-Chloride and µ-Phenoxo/Chloro-Bridged Defective Dicubane Cobalt(II) Clusters

2016

Two tetranuclear CoII clusters [Co4(L)2(µ3-Cl)2Cl2] have been prepared by using multidentate diaminobisphenolate ligands. The solid-state structures of the complexes were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The cores of the cluster compounds can be defined as a two-vertex-deficient dicubane geometry (pseudo-dicubane). In the central unit, the cobalt(II) cations are linked through phenoxide oxygen (outer bridges) and chloride anions (inner bridges), previously unprecedented in this type of cobalt cluster. The magnetic properties were studied by both experimental and computational methods. By using a combination of techniques, we were able to determine the nature and strength of t…

A Co36Cluster Assembled from the Reaction of Cobalt Pivalate with 2,3-Dicarboxypyrazine

2009

A record Co36 cluster is prepared. This mixed-valent compound containing CoII and CoIII centers is formed in the reaction of a dinuclear cobalt pivalate species with the polydentate 2,3-dicarboxypyrazine ligand. In terms of magnetic properties it behaves as a {Co16-Co16} supramolecular dimer in which the S = A spin ground states of each monomer do not interact. Fil: Alborés, Pablo. Automated approach for indirect immunofluorescence images classification based on unsupervised clustering method

2018

Autoimmune diseases (ADs) are a collection of many complex disorders of unknown aetiology resulting in immune responses to self-antigens and are thought to result from interactions between genetic and environmental factors. ADs collectively are amongst the most prevalent diseases in the U.S., affecting at least 7% of the population. The diagnosis of ADs is very complex, the standard screening methods provides seeking and recognizing of Antinuclear Antibodies (ANA) by Indirect ImmunoFluorescence (IIF) based on HEp-2 cells. In this paper an automatic system able to identify and classify the Centromere pattern is presented. The method is based on the grouping of centromeres present on the cell…

Recognition of Cardiac Arrhythmia by Means of Beat Clustering on ECG-Holter Recordings

2012

The follow-up of some cardiac diseases may be achieved by ECG-holter record analysis. A heartbeat clustering method can be used to reduce the usually high computational cost of such Holter analysis. This study describes a method aimed at cardiac arrhythmia recognition based on this approach, by means of unsupervised inspection of morphologically similar heartbeat groups. Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) is used as the feature selection method since the complexity increases exponentially with the number of features. A modification of the k-means algorithm was developed for centroid computation, taking into account heartbeat length changes. Experimental set consisted of ECG records from the…

Clustering Algorithms for MRI

1991

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) plays a relevant role in the design of systems for computer assisted diagnosis. MR-images are multi-dimensional in nature; physicians have to combine several perceptual information images to perform the tissue classification needed for diagnosis. Automatic clustering methods help to discriminate relevant features and to perform a preliminary segmentation of the image; it can guide the final manual classification of body-tissues. Three clustering techniques and their integration in a MRI-system are described. Their performance and accuracy was evaluated on synthetic and real image-data. A comparison of our approach with the tissue-classification done by a rad…

Effects of a school-based physical activity intervention on academic performance in 14-year old adolescents: a cluster randomized controlled trial – …

2021

Abstract Background School-based physical activity interventions evaluating the effect on academic performance usually includes children. We aimed to investigate the effect of a nine-month, school-based physical activity intervention titled School in Motion (ScIM) on academic performance in adolescents. Methods Thirty secondary schools in Norway were cluster-randomized into three groups: the Physically active learning (PAL) group (n = 10), the Don’t worry – Be Happy (DWBH) group (n = 10) or control (n = 10). Target dose in both intervention groups was 120 min/week of additional PA during school hours. Parental consent was obtained from 2084 adolescent students (76%). Standardized national t…

Cationic lipide mediated transfer of c-abl and bcr antisense oligonucleotides to immature normal myeloid cells: Uptake, biological effects and modula…

1996

Uptake and biochemical and biological effects of antisense oligodeoxynucleotides (ODN) specific for c-abl and bcr genes were studied in normal immature myeloid cells. CD34-positive cells were purified by positive and negative selection and cultured in liquid culture for 7 days. These cells were then incubated with ODNs, either alone or in combination with cationic lipids. The uptake of ODNs was enhanced by the use of cationic lipids. In addition, very low concentrations of ODNs in combination with cationic lipids were capable of specifically inhibiting the expression of the c-abl gene. In contrast, no effects were seen on the expression of bcr. However, despite the effective blocking of c-a…

Oral hygiene practices and dental caries prevalence among 12 and 15 years school children in Ambala, Haryana -A cross-sectional study

2015

Background: Dental caries and gum disease are a major public health problem predominantly affecting children worldwide. Therefore the present study was conducted to assess oral hygiene practices, prevalence of dental caries and periodontal diseases among 12 and 15 years old high school children in public and government schools of Ambala district, Haryana and to provide data for planning and evaluation of oral health care promotion programs. Material and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive survey of 12 and 15 years old children in government and private schools was conducted in Ambala, Haryana. A sample of 992 school children was selected by a two-stage cluster sampling method. Dental car…

Evaluation of the UP4FUN Intervention: A Cluster Randomized Trial to Reduce and Break Up Sitting Time in European 10-12-Year-Old Children

2015

Background The UP4FUN intervention is a family-involved school-based intervention aiming at reducing and breaking up sitting time at home (with special emphasis on screen time), and breaking up sitting time in school among 10–12 year olds in Europe. The purpose of the present paper was to evaluate its short term effects. Methodology/Principal Findings A total of 3147 pupils from Belgium, Germany, Greece, Hungary and Norway participated in a school-randomized controlled trial. The intervention included 1–2 school lessons per week for a period of six weeks, along with assignments for the children and their parents. Screen time and breaking up sitting time were registered by self-report and to…
